A syn-chro-nis-tic  Audio pronunciation of "synchronistic" Primer :

Early in the history of film, it was discovered that when music was matched with a piece of visual imagery it had a powerful influence on how it was perceived and received by the human mind. Films with highly emotional, majestic scores were found to have a greater emotional impact on their audience than similar scenes with no music, or even silence. William S. Burroughs, always an experimenter with the art of montage, was one of the first pioneers to put random clips of film to different unrelated music, creating the art of the synchronicity. The concept was an integral part of the psychedelic scene of the 1960s and eagerly embraced by bands like Pink Floyd who are still a key part of one of the mother of all syncs "Dark Side of the Rainbow".

Part of the appeal of synchronicities is that it allows the viewer a more active degree of participation in the viewing experience. Instead of just sitting there passively, you get to take part in what you see, by setting things up, by trying new combinations yourself. It's kind of subversive that way, because what you see is not necessarily what was originally intended as the viewing experience. It allows fans to reclaim participation in what they're seeing and hearing. It is truely the simplist form of multimedia experience.

The Webster Definition:

music (myoo'zik) n.1 - The art of organizing tones or sounds with respect to time, to form, an aesthetic whole.

art (art) n.1 - The ability of a person to arrange or adapt natural things or conditions to his or her uses. adj.

synchronistic (syn-chro-nis-tic) .adj - synchronism of events that appear to be connected but have no demonstratable casual relationship.

#1 The Myth "DSOTR"

For those of you who might not be aware of this

phenomenon, it is not  folk lore but a matter of fact that

if you juxtapose the playing of Pink Floyds

“Dark Side of the Moon” against the classic movie

The Wizard of Oz” you will witness one of the worlds

best examples of synchronicity!

Whether it is intentional or coincidental

is a matter of great debate!

My Ingredients:

DVD - "The Wizard of OZ" - Warner Bros.

CD AUDIO - "Dark Side of the Moon" - Pink Floyd

Since the Wizard of Oz” is 144 minutes long, It takes 2 and a

1/3 repeats of Pink Floyds “Dark Side of the Moon” to equal

the length of the movie. There is only one cue drop to make:

Start the DVD of "The Wizard of Oz"

Start the CD of "Dark Side of the Moon" in loop mode

(or your own personal computer based version like myself)

Immediatly after the 3rd Lion roar

in the beginning of the movie!

You will know that you have the sync correct if the

transition from "Speak to Me" to "Breathe" syncs

with the fade-in of producer Mervyn LeRoy.

ADD:

CD AUDIO - "Dark Side of the Moon" - Easy Star AllStars

Instead of the 2nd repeat of "DSOTM" and return to

Pink Floyd version until the end of the movie.

For my personal version of this continuing cult saga!

I have scored and performed the original

"Dark Side of the Rainbow" as well as my own

version which I call "Dark Side Dub The Rainbow"

featuring The Easy Star All-Stars reggae version of

"Dark Side" for non profit, in theatres and clubs for years!

With much respect and appriciation to:

Pink Floyd for years of inspiration!

Follow the yellow brick road to

The "Dub Side of the Rainbow"
